The Boxer
Boxer's reactions to strangers can vary greatly, and socializing and training are a necessity, particularly if your Boxer is more on the protective side. Another training note: Boxers intelligence and headstrong nature can make training a challenge. Our advice, keep them as entertained as possible while learning, and give lots of praise and affection as a reward for a job well done. Boxers are very motivated by our love and affection. Having confidence, being assertive, and calm are the most effective ways to interact with this breed, and will definitely help you establish yourself as pack leader. Boxers tend to be relatively easy to groom in comparison to breeds like the Shih Tzu, or Old English Sheepdog. Brushing 1-2x per week to remove dead skin and hair, and wiping your dog down with a damp cloth is generally all that is needed to keep their coats in great shape. Bathing 4x a year is suggested, your dog may need it a bit more often depending on how regularly he romps in the mud. Read Dog Grooming 101 to learn how to maintain your dog's eyes, ears, and nails, as well as learning proper bathing techniques and the importance of brushing your dog's teeth.
