Jack: Under the Covers |
Jack was found running loose in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY. Some kind person caught him and took him in, after searching for his owner (who was never found) they put him up for adoption, and I was lucky enough to get him!
This is Jack's Adoption Story:
I wish I still had his 'adopt me' picture! We searched petfinder.com for just the right dog for months. Suddenly, there was this Jack Russel Terrier with a brown head and white body - just so funny, it looked like the wrong head for his body. We emailed the people who found him and made arrangements to drive to Brooklyn (we lived on Long Island at the time). The woman told us that her husband had to chase Jack on foot for about a mile before he caught him. He had been in Prospect Park, near their home, and they knew he was lost, no collar, just wandering.
They checked all the vets within two miles of their home, posted signs, put up ads online, and no response. It seemed odd because he was about a year old, neutered, and had a docked tail, someone had taken care of him at one time. He got along with their dogs and was a total nut of a dog when we met him, but he liked me and that's all I cared about.
That first night with him was very long. While Jack was house trained, he was a bit nervous and needed to go out every few hours, so, I slept with him on a futon mattress in the living room to get him used to me. After that, aside from having a bit of a nervous stomach, he was 'our dog'.
We would walk the mile to my parents house almost every day and he loved being with them too - a good thing since they would dog sit whenever we went on vacation and he was even MORE spoiled there. Jack had his moments - like running through screens to get to the birds in the backyard. However, over time he realized that he didn't need to be hyper, that he was loved no matter what, so he decided that watching tv with us, sleeping on the couch, playing with ferrets (he loves ferrets, and not as food!) was better than expending all that energy bouncing off the walls. It's a good thing he realized that because we made a huge move to Texas and he managed the trip beautifully.
